Zero Tolerance Policy on Ragging

Introduction:

Kabikankan Mukundaram Mahavidyalaya is committed to fostering a safe and inclusive environment where all individuals can pursue their academic and personal goals without fear of harassment or intimidation. As part of this commitment, the college has implemented a stringent anti-ragging policy to prevent and address any incidents of ragging on its premises. Ragging, in any form, is strictly prohibited and will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Objectives:

The objectives of this policy are as follows:

  1. To create a safe and respectful environment for all members of the college community.
  2. To prevent incidents of ragging and ensure the well-being of students.
  3. To promote a culture of mutual respect, tolerance, and understanding among students.
  4. To raise awareness about the negative consequences of ragging and encourage reporting of incidents.
  5. To impose disciplinary action on those found guilty of engaging in ragging activities.

What Constitutes Ragging?

Ragging is defined as any act that may cause physical or psychological harm, raise apprehension, or create a hostile environment for any student. This includes, but is not limited to, the following behaviors:

  1. Physical abuse, such as hitting, pushing, or assaulting another student.
  2. Verbal abuse, including using derogatory language, name-calling, or making threats.
  3. Sexual harassment or any form of inappropriate sexual behavior.
  4. Psychological intimidation, humiliation, or harassment.
  5. Forced consumption of alcohol or drugs.
  6. Any other behavior that may be perceived as ragging or hazing.

Task of the Grievant:

Any student who experiences or witnesses an act of ragging is encouraged to report it immediately to the college authorities. The college provides multiple channels for reporting, including confidential reporting mechanisms, to ensure that students feel safe and supported when coming forward with their concerns. Students who report incidents of ragging will be treated with confidentiality and sensitivity.

Disciplinary Action:

The college takes allegations of ragging very seriously and will conduct a prompt and impartial investigation into any reported incidents. Students found guilty of engaging in ragging activities will face disciplinary action, which may include but is not limited to:

  1. Suspension or expulsion from the college.
  2. Withholding of scholarships or other financial aid.
  3. Fines or community service.
  4. Legal consequences, if warranted by the severity of the offense.
  5. Additionally, the college may provide counseling or support services to both the victim and the perpetrator to address any emotional or psychological impact resulting from the incident.

Awareness on Ragging:

The college is committed to raising awareness about the negative consequences of ragging and promoting a culture of respect and tolerance among students. To achieve this, the college will:

  1. Conduct orientation sessions for new students to educate them about the anti-ragging policy and the consequences of engaging in ragging activities.
  2. Organize workshops, seminars, and awareness campaigns throughout the academic year to educate students about the detrimental effects of ragging on individuals and the community.
  3. Collaborate with student organizations, faculty members, and staff to actively promote a culture of inclusion and mutual respect within the college community.
